Customers want more control

Package holidays used to be all the rage.

There was a time when only travel agents had access to the best deals on flights, hotels, and everything else. Therefore, it was in the customer’s best interests to book a package holiday through a travel agent. There was the added benefit that everything would be done for the customer and all they had to do was go and enjoy their holiday.

However, these days, that information is freely available for everyone online. Customers can make their own choice from thousands of destinations, flights, hotels, and activities. Armed with all this information, people can now create their own unique holidays to suit their needs exactly.

Customers want more time

The accessibility and popularity of mass travel has given it a reputation of being stressful. This has led to a shift in the travel trend of holidaymakers giving as much importance in the actual travelling as the destination. Sleeper trains are beginning to reappear. However, some are looking slightly different to the sleeper trains of old. With the interiors of the modern trains resembling a 5-star hotel and costing a few grand a night. That is how you travel in style.

Customers want a literary holiday

In recent years, the most popular film and TV franchises have seen holidaymakers flock to locations where particular scenes were shot. New Zealand will for a long time be the dream holiday for fans of The Lord of the Rings. Likewise, the Croatian city of Dubrovnik saw a vast increase in tourism once fans found out that was the location used for the set of Kings Landing in Game of Thrones.

There has been a trend in luxury travel of a rejection of these mass appeal destinations in favour of more high brow options. Examples of these appear around Great Britain. There is Bath, the one-time home of Jane Austen, Whitby, the setting for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Haworth, more commonly known as Bronte country.
